Cricket formats and tournaments — where to bet

Cricket fans in Bangladesh follow all three formats both at the ground and on screen. Betting works differently across formats — some matches take five days, others just a few hours. baji 8 offers markets for all three formats.

T20

T20: Fast and exciting

This 20-over format wraps up in a few hours. BPL and IPL are both played in this format. Betting markets shift quickly — odds reset after every over. Bangladesh's matches in the T20 World Cup draw special attention across the country.

ODI

One Day International

Strategy plays a bigger role in 50-over ODIs. The ICC World Cup is played in this format. Bettors watch how odds move in the middle overs and look for opportunities in live betting. There are also relatively more markets available.

Test

Test Cricket: A game of patience

In this five-day format, a match can turn around even on the final day. A draw is a valid result in Tests, so there are three outcomes in the market: Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. Reading the odds well makes Test betting quite strategic.

baji 8 BPL and IPL tournament markets

BPL, IPL and international competitions

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fills cricket fans with excitement every season. IPL also has a large Bangladeshi audience. Beyond these, baji 8 offers markets for the T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and bilateral series.

Betting opportunities extend beyond cricket — from football, tennis and badminton to many other sports. However, cricket betting has the greatest number and depth of markets. Just as football has markets like half-time score or corner count, cricket has over-by-over run markets.

Popular cricket betting markets

A single match offers many types of bets — not just 'who will win'. Here is a simple introduction to seven markets.

Most Popular

Match Winner

You pick which team will win at the end of the match. In T20 and ODI there are only two outcomes (Team A or Team B); in Tests there are three (Team A, Team B or draw). It is a straightforward concept, so new bettors usually start here.

Toss Market

Toss Winner

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match begins. This is completely separate from the match result, and the outcome is known within minutes. The odds for both teams are usually close.

Player Market

Top Batsman

A bet on which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. Knowing the current form of familiar players in a team helps in judging this market.

Runs Market

Total Runs Over/Under

You choose whether the total runs in a match or an innings will be above (over) or below (under) a set number. Example: over or under 160 runs in the first innings.

Multiple Bets

Multi Bet

Several bets are combined at once and the odds are multiplied together. You receive the full payout only if all bets win. If even one loses, the entire bet is lost — so the risk is higher, but so is the potential return.

Live Market

Next Over Runs

A bet placed during the match on how many runs will be scored in the next over. The odds on this market change instantly when a wicket falls or the powerplay ends. It is one of the most engaging live betting markets.

Wicket Market

There are separate markets for how many wickets will fall in an innings or within a set number of overs. Markets on how many wickets a specific bowler will take are also available. Knowledge of pitch conditions and a team's bowling attack helps in understanding this market.

How to read odds — three formats

Odds in cricket or any other sport can be written in three formats: decimal, fractional and American. All three convey the same information — only the way they are written differs.

Odds Format Team A value What it means
Decimal 2.50 Total return of ৳2.50 per ৳1 bet (profit + original stake)
Fractional 3/2 ৳3 profit for every ৳2 staked
American +150 ৳150 profit on a ৳100 bet (positive sign = underdog)

Example 1 — Underdog bet

Team A wins — the same value in all three formats: decimal 2.50, fractional 3/2, American +150.

A ৳500 bet returns a total of ৳1,250 if it wins (৳750 profit + ৳500 original stake). If it loses, the full ৳500 is gone.

Example 2 — Favourite bet

Team B wins — decimal 1.25, fractional 1/4, American -400. A negative American sign means how much you need to stake to win ৳100.

A ৳500 bet returns a total of ৳625 if it wins (৳125 profit + ৳500 original stake). A favourite offers less profit but also less risk.

In a multi-bet, odds are multiplied. Three bets at 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.26 — meaning a ৳100 bet returns ৳426 — but only when all three win.

Odds update with every wicket and over

Betting during a match — live or in-play betting — is especially popular in cricket, because every over and every wicket directly affects the odds.

Say Team A has scored 35 runs in 5 overs — the growing chance of a big score shifts the odds. Then if two wickets fall suddenly after the powerplay, Team B's odds of winning come down.

At baji 8, live betting odds update in real time. If you can read how a match is going and decide accordingly, in-play markets can be quite engaging. That said, it is better not to rush decisions under the pressure of a fast-moving game.

  • When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds increase
  • When the run rate rises, pressure on the bowling team increases
  • When the DLS method is applied, markets may be temporarily suspended
  • In the final 5 overs, as tension builds, odds fluctuate more

Some practical advice for cricket betting

Betting is a form of entertainment — not a source of income. These tips help keep betting organised and responsible.

01

Set a budget

Decide in advance how much you will bet in a week or a month. Stop when you reach that limit. Chasing losses by placing bigger bets is not a wise move.

02

Choose markets based on the format

A market that works well in T20 (such as powerplay runs) does not apply in Test cricket. Understanding each format's markets separately makes decision-making easier.

03

Do not rely too heavily on multi-bets

The return on a multi-bet looks large, but if even one of five selections loses, everything is gone. Starting with a combination of two or three bets is safer.

04

Be patient with live betting

It is better not to bet hastily in the heat of a match. Watch a few overs, get a feel for how the teams are playing, then decide.

05

Compare odds

Odds can differ across markets for the same match. Before placing a bet, look at a few markets and pick the one you understand best.

How cricket betting differs from football and other sports

Football is also quite popular in Bangladesh alongside cricket. Football has many markets too — match winner, both teams to score, half-time and full-time score, handicap and more. There are a few key differences from cricket.

  • A football match ends in 90 minutes; in cricket, the time ranges from a few hours to five days depending on the format
  • Football is a low-scoring game — results like 0-0 or 1-0 are common; cricket has far more runs
  • In cricket, live markets update after every over — more frequently than in football
  • In handicap markets, outcomes are expressed as numbers, not specific runs or goals

Sports like tennis, badminton or kabaddi have fewer markets, but they are all available at baji 8. Visit the FAQ page to learn about the betting experience across different sports.

Casino games and jackpot opportunities are also available

Alongside cricket betting, baji 8 also has live casino, slots and the chance to win large prizes. The jackpot games show how a single spin can create the possibility of winning a large amount.

PG Soft's Phoenix Rises slot game is popular among Bangladeshi players — you can find full details on its features and how to play on that page.

Cricket Betting FAQ

You can bet on BPL, IPL, T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup and various bilateral series. Domestic leagues are also available during their seasons.

Pre-match betting is placed before the match starts, when the odds are stable. Live or in-play betting is placed while the match is in progress — the odds change after every over, wicket and run. Live betting requires quick decisions.

In Tests, three results are possible: Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. In the match winner market you pick one of these three. Draw odds are usually higher because it is considered a less likely outcome. There is no draw in T20 or ODI.

No — a multi-bet can mix markets from cricket, football and other sports. However, all selections must win; if even one loses, the entire bet is lost. For example: three bets at decimal 1.40, 1.60 and 1.90 — the combined odds are 4.26 — meaning a ৳100 bet returns ৳426, but only if all three win.

If a match is completely cancelled, most bets are refunded. If a result is declared using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, bets are settled according to that result. For specific rules, see baji 8's Terms and Conditions.
